Dominic MacSorley

Humanitarian Ambassador

Dominic was appointed in January 2023 as Humanitarian Ambassador for Concern Worldwide. His responsibilities include senior level engagement with key donors and policy makers, including with USAID, InterAction and representing the organization at the United Nations.

Prior to this appointment, Dominic served for ten years as the Chief Executive Officer for Concern Worldwide during which time he sat on the Principals Inter-Agency Standing Committee and was Chair of the Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence. He is currently on the board of the Global Executive Leadership Initiative. 

Dominic studied law at Queen’s University Belfast before joining Concern in 1982 as part of their extensive refugee operations on the Thai/Cambodian border. Over the next three decades he went on to lead Concern’s responses to some of the world’s most devastating humanitarian emergencies including Rwanda, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Darfur, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti and Iraq.

Dominic was awarded an OBE in 2009 in recognition of his services to international humanitarian aid and, two years later, was honored by the Northern Ireland All Party Group on International Development for his outstanding contribution to international humanitarianism. As an experienced humanitarian, Dominic remains passionately committed to social justice and the end to global hunger and poverty.
