What is Concern 812?

Concern 812 is a student-led volunteer youth initiative that offers 8th to 12th graders opportunities to engage in local service projects with global impact.

Founded by Anabelle, Caroline, and Vivienne Hewitt — with the support of Grace O’Carroll and other friends — the project began with a car wash in 2023 in Glenview, Illinois to raise funds for Concern Worldwide.

Concern 812 in the news

Since then, it's become an annual tradition. In each of the last three years, approximately 50 students have volunteered their time to Concern 812’s Helping Hands Car Wash Service Project, and have helped to raise over $13,000 in support of Concern’s mission to end extreme poverty.

And they're just getting started…

Join the 812 Community

Together, Anabelle, Caroline, and Vivienne are building a national 812 Community and are looking to work with groups around the country to build more car wash sites.

These groups can easily come together from school sports teams, bands, and other clubs and will provide key service-learning opportunities for students as they prepare their college applications. (Concern 812 is already working with service project volunteers from Loyola Academy’s Girls’ Tennis teams.)

By becoming a Concern 812 Captain, you’ll join a growing network of other volunteer leaders across the country working within their communities to create meaningful change in the fight against extreme poverty around the world. Other benefits include:

  • Developing leadership skills
  • A deepened understanding of humanitarian issues
  • Being part of the next generation of active global citizens
