Despite a ceasefire, 90% of Gaza's require humanitarian assistance this winter and famine is still present. Here’s what we’re doing — and how you can help.
Even with a ceasefire declared, 1.9 million Gazans — roughly 90% of the population — have been displaced after two years of violence. Many are now heading into a harsh winter without adequate shelter, food, water, or protection, while famine remains present in the region.

How to help Gaza
Help Concern reach more in Gaza — and many of the world’s other largest humanitarian crises.
A ceasefire was declared on October 9, 2025, as part of a larger Gaza peace deal. This is a critical step, however civilians will continue to face impossible choices in their daily struggle to survive.
As Concern Worldwide US CEO Colleen Kelly explains: “Now is the time to open every route possible for humanitarian aid. People in Gaza need clean water, food, and medical care — and they need it now.”
In August 2025, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) officially confirmed famine in Gaza for the first time. The organization estimated that 640,000 people would be affected through September. It has not yet been able to conduct a follow-up due to the security situation, but estimates that at least half a million Gazans are still facing famine, with another 1 million one step away from crossing the threshold if urgent action is not taken.
An estimated 90% of Gazans remain unable to return home amid houses reduced to rubble and crowded displacement sites. This is further complicated by the approaching winter months, which bring colder temperatures and heavy rains. Tents and makeshift shelters have faced multiple floods since November.
Floods in Gaza began in November with heavy rains submerging encampments, soaking families, shutting down roads, and bringing waterborne diseases. Hygiene is at a premium amid this, as sewage drains have also collapsed under pressure. The UN estimates that over a quarter of a million families are not adequately prepared for the winter months in terms of shelter and other vital supplies.
