Concern Worldwide supported 27.3 million people in 27 countries in 2024, Annual Report announces
Concern Worldwide US is proud to share the release of the 2024 Annual Report, spotlighting its reach of 27.3 million people across 27 countries.
Last year, Concern’s work came during a vital time amidst protracted crises – exacerbated by conflict and climate events, which resulted in 130 million people being forcibly displaced from their homes and over 300 million people facing acute or catastrophic levels of hunger.
Despite these ongoing challenges, Concern marked its first full year of operations in Yemen – responding with life-saving health and nutrition services to over 29,400 people, while also reaching 100,000 people on the ground in Sudan – which is currently experiences the world’s largest humanitarian crisis after more than two years of conflict.
In a letter from Concern CEO and Board Chair, "Behind every number in our 2024 Annual Report is a person - a name, a story. Each one speaks to what is possible when we come together, even in the most difficult circumstances. These stories of impact are only made possible because of Concern Worldwide’s supporters, staff, institutional donors, and local partners who turn their concern into action.“
This year’s Annual Report include achievements of:
16.8 million people reached through 50 Emergency Responses across 22 countries
Many of the countries in which Concern works are susceptible to frequent natural disasters and outbreaks of conflict, resulting in already vulnerable people losing their homes and livelihoods.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, conflict had forced record numbers of people to flee their homes where Concern reached 242,000 people with cash, water, sanitation and hygiene interventions.
5 million people reached through award-winning Health and Nutrition programming
Our health and nutrition programs work to prevent under-nutrition and extreme hunger, strengthen maternal and child health, support health facilities, and improve access to clean water and sanitation.
In South Sudan, Concern provided safe and clean drinking water to almost 125,000 people through a number of interventions, including solar water yards, boreholes, surface water treatment systems and water points at health facilities. For internally displaced civilians, Concern continued to operate sanitation facilities serving around 40,000 people on a daily basis.
2.5 million people reached through Livelihoods and Financial Empowerment programming
The communities Concern works with struggle to earn enough to ensure their families have sufficient food, adequate health care and to get an education.
In Malawi, following the effects of El Niño, our Food Systems for Food Security program, reached 18,000 people through connecting rural farmers with good agricultural practices, increasing crop production cycles and bolstering food security. To support improved nutrition and diet quality, more than 3,000 homestead gardens and 50 school gardens were established.
692,000 people reached through Education programming
Concern believes that all children have the right to education and that it provides one of the best routes out of poverty. In northeast Syria, the ongoing crisis has severely disrupted children’s education. Concern has significantly improved access to education for out-of-school children. Non-formal education programs were run in 12 locations, reaching 14,700 people. With local partners, Concern targeted conflict-affected communities to enable children not currently in school to re-join the school system.
2.2 million people reached through Integrated programming
There are interconnected issues that keep communities trapped in the cycle of poverty. For that reason, many of Concern’s programs are integrated, bringing together agriculture and livelihoods with health and education.
In Pakistan, we continued to work with communities in Sindh province whose lives were affected by catastrophic flooding that submerged a third of the country. Through integrated programming, over 444,000 people were reached with programs including agriculture and livelihoods, health, water and sanitation and disaster risk reduction measures.
